Library +
is a package of education programmes intended for librarians and
libraries. All programmes are made to suit different kinds of
formal education, and aim at modern and efficient library function.
School B +
for librarians is a part of the package and it is meant to lay
foundation for creation of the B + system - a system of open libraries
in Serbia.
The main purpose
of School B + is to provide librarians with the opportunity to
continually develop their professional skills and to learn professional
behaviour, while innovating and standardizing library practices
in different types of libraries.
This year
the education programme of School B + includes two main themes
- Modern Standards and Methods in Libraries and New Information
Technologies in Libraries - and five thematic modules -Acquisition
and Cataloguing Innovations, Use of Library Resources, Management
and Marketing, Training for the Electronic Era, and Using Internet
Sources. The subjects will be covered within the scope of eighteen
courses.
The School
B + subjects and courses cover the following three main fields
and modern standards within them:
- acquisition process and cataloguing of publications,
- library management and marketing,
- use of up-to-date information technologies.
The courses
are intended for librarians in all types of libraries and of all
professional profiles, for managers of different library departments
and for library managers.
Contrary to
the existing division of library staff into librarians and library
technicians based on formal education, School B + recognizes librarians
as individuals who have passed the state's professional exam and
perform jobs related to their professional profiles and/or specialzed
knowledge in a library, be it a school, university, public "national"
or a specialized one, in one of the following fields:
- acquisition
- cataloguing
- providing information and services to library users
- "parent" activities
- marketing
- financial management
- management
The education
process of School B + includes a number of courses, most of which
require students' attendance of the following four stages:
